Microsoft .NET Audit Service
Overview
Our core business is consulting on the .NET platform, and we work with the latest technologies on some of the world's most challenging or innovative software. So we understand good, and bad, code when we see it. No-one sets out to develop bad code, but the nature of change within the business often leads to applications outliving their relevance.
However, as often as we've been asked to audit applications which aren't meeting specifications; we're also asked to review applications to demonstrate how they do meet, or even exceed specifications. Think of it like an inspection before you insure a car.
Readify provides an independent review of your applications code, deliverable documentation, and ongoing management processes. This either verifies the application's compliance to your stated goals, or provides recommendations on best practices to meet changing business requirements.
Readify offers this service on a Time and Materials basis that allows our clients to focus on quality and prioritise features.
How the Service Works
Time and Materials Consulting
Whilst this is a structured service, which follows a strict methodology, there is a huge difference between a simple desktop application, and an enterprise wide, logistics tracking service. Our experience shows that we can provide this service from between 3 days and 2 weeks. This depends on the complexity of the system, the availability of documentation and source code, and accessibility to key stakeholders to the application.
Our consultant will gladly estimate the scope of the project at the outset to ensure a predictable and affordable outcome. The Audit steps through the following four phases:
Prepare
To ensure we can deliver the service as efficiently as possible, clients will need to prepare for the engagement in 3 key areas:
Access to Code and Systems
Provide access to application source code and any systems, including the application and interdependencies (e.g. authentication systems, network or perimeter security, 3rd party integrated systems)
Access to Documentation
The Readify team will need copies of any system documentation that exists, even if it is out of date.
Access to Key Stakeholders
The Readify team will work with clients to identify key stakeholders from the business, user, and technical communities whom they will interview during the review. Clients will need to prepare stakeholders for interviews and schedule meetings over the duration of the review.
Review
The Readify team then reviews the documentation, interviews stakeholders, walks through the application, and assesses the code.
Consolidate
Once we have completed the review phase of the audit, the team works to consolidate findings and prepare recommendations. We usually do this off-site, but can work in an office on the client site as appropriate.
Present
The service concludes with a presentation of findings, as well as any recommendations. Depending on the nature of the audit, we may recommend steps to achieve compliance to stated objectives, ways to implement best practices, or development activities to improve performance.
As well as the presentation, Readify prepares a report with all of the findings and recommendations as the final deliverable of the service.
The Readify .NET Audit Service Experience
Many of our clients have engaged our Audit Service to review code they've "inherited" through a merger, or that has been developed on their behalf by a third party. Their comments include:
- Assurance from having the best .NET developers review their code.
- Appreciation for the wealth of knowledge they gained about their system and development practices.
