Readify delivers a new way to work with enterprise
Workways, a provider of the Australian Government's Job Network Program, recently needed a business solution to improve efficiency in coordinating activities between their 250 staff.
The Situation
Delivering services to employers and job seekers throughout Victoria places high demands on Workways, and technical efficiencies of the highest standards are vital to ensure their success as a business. Workways searched endlessly for an innovative method of streamlining information sharing and finally discovered Readify.
Adrian Martin, Technical Lead at Workways, began looking for assistance in building an internal database which would be accessible from all of their offices and enable sophisticated knowledge sharing for their clients and applicants, ultimately speeding up the job application process.
Workways needed a simple, secure solution which would be tailored to the specifications of Workways. After careful consideration, Workways decided to work with Readify to implement a complete solution.
The Solution
"We shopped around for consulting and development firms and picked Readify because of their style and approach, which was the closest match to what we were after, particularly in terms of knowledge transfer, being able to focus on us getting skills rather than them just developing software for us."
Readify commenced with an initial week of consulting on design and architecture of the solution, and came up with a plan of how the software would work. After discussing the rest of the engagement, Readify assigned a senior developer to begin working on project and to teach Adrian the process and technical architecture as the solution was being developed, providing Workways with knowledge transfer so as to make them capable custodians of the solution, long after Readify's work was done.
In taking this approach, Readify embraced the old adage "Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day; teach a man to fish and he'll eat for a lifetime." This approach contrasts dramatically with that of traditional solution providers or contractors who try to keep clients locked into their own maintenance of a solution.
The Benefits
Adrian comments, "The product, and work that they have left us with is totally open, so I could move to another vendor if I wanted. But the skills I've picked up from working with them are hugely valuable, and I can now continue development without needing to keep them engaged."
Readify's engagement provided Workways with the skills to solve their own problem, at the same time delivering a solid platform upon which to build the solution, with ample support to mitigate risks from design through to development.
