Readify Revolutionise Customers' Purchasing Experience for Viva Tags

Situation

Having a mobile presence is mandatory today, but an increasingly fragmented app market drowning in stand-alone executions is costing vendors tens of millions of dollars every year to develop and maintain.

Being a start-up company, Viva Tags were looking to provide a fast, convenient and secure solution to enable their customers (both consumers and vendors) to quickly access information and purchase products and services.

The most recognisable and widely used tag format today is QR (Quick Response) Codes. They appear in magazines, on signs, on buses and on business cards. Many of these applications target smartphone users who, with a QR Code Scanner application installed, can scan the QR Code to read text, contact information, connect to a wireless network, or open a web page in the telephone's browser. Viva Tags wanted to take QR Codes to the next level by making them both smarter and more secure and engaged Readify to create a payment and fulfilment platform based around the use of a mobile device as the payment mechanism. 

 

Solution

The solution developed by Readify is multi-faceted and incorporates three distinct web-based portals, hosted on Microsoft Windows Azure. SQL Azure provides the storage for all the portals and the web portals were developed using ASP.Net MVC.

The mobile experience has an ASP.Net MVC implementation, which, on the client side is contained inside a native mobile application for all major mobile platforms including WP7.

Viva Tags' SecQR and NFC Smart Response Tags are associated with many of Australia's leading brands and services. By scanning these easily identifiable tags with any leading smartphone, the single Viva Tags app allows customers to instantly connect with, purchase from or enquire about a wide range of brands, retailers and service providers.

Customers simply download the app and complete the brief one time registration. This establishes their Viva Tags profile and security preferences. It also links their preferred bank account or credit card to their highly secure Viva Tags eWallet into which funds can be deposited and subsequently drawn on to pay for purchases.

Viva Tags is the ideal engagement and transaction platform for vendors large and small, in industries far and wide including those associated with advertising, music, movies, sport, motor vehicles, real estate, printing, charities, parking, public transport, vending operations and television and digital radio to name just a few. As Viva Tags is truly ubiquitous, vendors don't have to invest in and develop their apps for multiple platforms, or limit their presence to the few they think will prevail.

By using Microsoft Tag technology to generate product tags for Viva Tags, Readify can ensure that the transactions are secure and the tags can be branded and are incorporated easily onto the Microsoft stack. The other major advantage is that the Microsoft tags can contain any payload without affecting the generated tag itself.

Readify's solution ensures the Viva Tags transactions are amongst the most secure transactions possible. Firstly, none of the customer's personal information or financial identity is held on their phone at all. Nor are any financial transactions processed via the phone. All transactions are managed on highly secure servers, which along with the app and the web portal offer four levels of password and pin security. Even if the phone is lost, not only do these pins protect the customer from unauthorised use, they can immediately suspend that device or the entire account from any browser in the world.

Scalability

By using Windows Azure, we are able to scale the Viva Tags' platform depending on the vendor and the promotion. Viva Tags can rest assured that they could meet even the most drastic scalability requirement, without having to concern themselves with the infrastructure required. This is a huge cost saving as opposed to having an on premise solution.

Innovation

The cost of developing, deploying and supporting applications across a number of mobile technology platforms will soon become too great for most organisations. This would result in low level of return on investment for single purpose standalone applications and will drive suppliers to find a more effective way to tap into to the mobile commerce boom.
