Queensland Government: Dept of Education & Training
Identity and Access Management Program
The Situation
Queensland Department of Education and Training faced major challenges coordinating its IT operations for over thirteen hundred (1300) public schools across the state. In order for a school to have their Active Directory managed centrally (to achieve uniformed deployment, access, and security), it required valid data in its local database. However errors such as invalid dates of birth, missing student Id numbers, and invalid staff activity status all prevented a centralised and therefore less expensive administration of the Active Directory.
The Solution
A centralised mirror of each school database was created and a data cleaning operation has been ongoing for the past three (3) years. Readify pioneered a Data Warehouse with daily updates for management (displayed in graphical form), with drill-through to details. This made it possible to see whether the program was meeting its objectives. Queensland Department of Education and Training is a great example of Readify's ability to use BI to empower management to deliver.
The Benefits
At the beginning of the 2008 school year, only three-hundred (300) schools had been moved to the new Managed Operating Environment, compared to the significant conversion by 2010. In early 2010 there were seventy-seven (77) percent fewer errors in the database than in the previous year.
